So we’ve settled into a bit of a routine, on the days I am home. Ot is becoming more and more focused in accomplishing his activities so he can then get on with the important stuff….playing! Unfortunately most is screen focused and he’s super resistant to getting out of the house. However, he’s getting what I am asking him to do done!
Richard is a bit less focused and there is still a lot of wasted time, thinking about doing other things, however this is much less than it was. Ben fluctuates from totally immersing himself in activities and not wanting to stop to not wanting to do anything anyone suggests!
This week is our last week on the human body and is looking at keeping healthy. We’ve had a look at the effects of stress and how to help ourselves feel better and manage stresses and today we looked at the importance of sleep.
Yesterday we went out to Banners Gate, had a lovely long walk in the wood, collecting acorns, sweet chestnuts and pine cones and then a play on the park before heading back for a late lunch and some craftiness.
B kindly agreed to help me try out my hedgehog making ideas using clay, sweet chestnut cases, acorns and googly eyes.
I found that making a kind of pinch pot, with a fatter, pointy nose kind of shape on 1 side then squishing in the sweet chestnut case with gloves on worked pretty well-an would be easy enough for littler fingers.
He also had a go at making a clay plaque, making marks and impressions with natural materials.
Tig gave me a hand trying out making clay leaves. We rolled out the clay, pressed the leaf vein-side down and rolled over it again then shaped them and draped over pots and jars to start to dry. We also added a hole so we could hang them when that are dry and have been painted.
Earlier this month we have had some fun learning about the heart, lungs and digestive system. We made a model of the lungs and heart and a shadow puppet show about the digestive system. Ot is in his element, retaining lots of information and recalling lots from the last time we did the digestive system. We also did tongue taste maps and the boys really enjoyed a video we found on you tube.
The boys did a really great explanation of what was happening in the different chambers and sucking cherry aide through made it good fun!
Everyone understood what was happening with the diaphragm!
We found out about lung capacities
Some general activity photos
We all made twiggy shakers… here’s Ben with his
B created a padded handle using elastic bands and fabric. We used bottle tops from the reclaimed materials place spa4e next to the toy library. We also laid out some possible robot designs we could make when we get some solder.
We have been out to the common, walked a new route form the park to a lake and back along the old railway track, been blackberry picking and lots more!!!
The boys played mining at one of our ‘patches’ all linked to minecraft with various ores being found and Ben found another perfect pick stick!
Tuesday Club has been good, but quiet. Last week was lovely and B enjoyed making the scarecrow.
We finished reading the Chronicles of Narnia and watched the animated version which the boys enjoyed.
Rich has been bringing a different story home each night from school and reading those to the boys this week and last.
We went out to Blists hill with MomK
Two days a week at work has been good, I’ve got lots of the theory stuff done as well as talked to the staff involved, ordered the essentials, created parent and staff info leaflets done a heap of risk assessments and organised the contractor (finally found one who answered our calls) who is starting work today!!!! These are before shots…
